All you have to do is agree to be Chad Ochocinco’s designated Twitter stenographer…and be a Bengals fan. Since the NFL placed a ban on in-game tweeting, the highly outspoken Cincinnati Bengals’ wide receiver has pledged to tweet no matter what the cost. The flamboyant and somewhat attention-starved player has decided to rally the fans to his cause.
The player formerly known as Chad Johnson will be holding a contest on Twitter every week. The lucky winner will be flown out to the game. From there Ochocinco will allow the winner to tweet from his personal account thereby bypassing that pesky no tweeting law. The wide receiver will work out some sort of signaling system with the fan beforehand to tell the fan what to tweet. He has yet to come up with contest details and how the actual winner will be determined, but he’s reached out to his fans to give an assist with that as well.
While I have to question if this can really be considered a prize, I mean these are Bengals’ games, (Yeah, I’m a hater. GO BIG BLUE!!!), this is a really cool way to strengthen his brand as well as utilize social networking. The man is a networking machine with accounts on uStream, Facebook and Twitter. Ochocinco currently has 137,633 followers on Twitter alone and with this stunt rooted in narcissism his twitter following is sure to grow and cause some serious celebrity copycatting.
I would love to say I’ll be keeping my eye on this by watching a Cincinnati game, but the only way that will be happening is when my Giants are steamrolling over them. Now I will be keeping my eyes peeled for the Ochocinco iPhone app that he mention in his uStream broadcast.
